please help
booked holiday with direct holidays last august for stay this august 9th -23rd august 2005. i thought i would email tucan to ask for our 2 rooms to be next to each other. theay say we do noy have a booking with at all. after long chats with feliciana at tucan spoke to travel agent who confirmed with have 2 rooms booked with them and the problem is probably that the hotel have not yet received the guest list from them. we have booked through direct holidays but the contract is apparently with my travel. we have all our itinerary, tickets etc and have confirmed this end in uk everything is ok. BUT TUCAN ARE STILL SAYINGWE DO NOT HAVE A RESERVATIO WITH THEM FOR THOSE DATES OR ANYOTHER OTHER DATES AT ALL. PLEASE HELP WITH ANY ADVICE,I FEEL LIKE I AM BANGING MY HEAD AGAINST A BRICK WALL. WHAT DO I DO????IF THE HOTEL HAS MADE A MISTAKE I WILL BE MAD FOR ALL THIS WORRY AND INCONVENIANCE BUT WHAT IF IT IS TRAVEL AGENT HERE, AND WE GET TO MEXICO IN TWO WEEKS TIME AND FIND WE DO NOT HAVE OUR ROOMS?Huh?

You will have to call Direct Holidays and find out when they are going to send guest list to Iberostar Tucan.

Sarah, we too are booked to go to the Tucan with Direct Holidays but not till December.  Rather than venting your anger with the hotel - get in touch with Direct Holidays now.  The problem (if there is one) might be this end, not with the hotel. 

It could be that with the hurricane recently DH are waiting to make sure everything is ok with the hotel before sending you there.

I really dont want to panic you but there are a lot of posts on there - mostly vented against Airtours and First Choice - regarding people who have been told a few days before they travel that the hotel has been overbooked (NOT the hotels fault) and they are being moved elsewhere. 

Get in touch with Direct Holidays.

I really really hope everything goes ok with your holiday - we are just biding our time until nearer the time to check out ours.   Let me know will you.

Dear Sally,
I have spoken to Direct Holidays at least four times this week who have assured me we have a booking at iberostart tucan from the 9th-23rd August 2005. They have confirmed my name is on the there list but the problem is tere guest list has not been sent to hotel yet{apparentley this can be done one week from departure or a few days before departure} There explaination seemed reasonable , we have our flight tickets, itinenary, booking confirmation etc and they assured me we have a booking at this hotel. Only problem for me is Tucan are saying we do not have a reservation, i explained to feliciana at reservations that they would not have our name yet has not yet been sent by direct holidays but she still insits we would not have a booking as hotel is full on these dates. Direct holidays have informed me they have a contract at the hotel for a set number of rooms wavey of these are allocated to our party}and we definetly have two rooms booked under this contract. Feliciiana has passed the problem onto someone called Theresa in Cancun who deals with Airtours/Direct Holidays but she is still saying we do not have rooms. So what does one do?Huh I am going to speak to direct holidays around tues/wedn to check if guest list has been sent and then go from there. All i do know is we have flights to mexico but if we have a hotel , who do i believe. Any way i am taking all paperwork, telephone numbers for home and copys of e-mails for when i get there.I will let you know with the outcome

Sarah, thanks for your reply. God it all sounds an absolute nightmare and I hope and pray it all works out ok for you.  Please let me know how you get on, everything is crossed.  You are doing the right thing in taking all available amunition with you - anything you have in writing take it.

I dont quite understand the hotel in saying you are not booked in if they dont have the DH guest list just yet?? 

Anyway - GOOD LUCK and if you get a chance to log on when you arrive - give us an update ok.

Dear Sally
Things have gone bad to worse today. Spoke to Direct Holidays today first thing to confirm that the guest list has been sent to the i tucan, i have been told that direct holidays had been emailed by the tucan on friday that the tucan would not be able to fulfill there contract of booked rooms and that indeed the hotel was overbooked and we would not have rooms at this hotel. We booked this holiday last August and now one week before we are due to travel we are told this. The only alternative they could offer us is the Baha Princapale Akumel at Tulum, although this is a 5 star property it is in the middle of no where and the sea looks rocky with reefs etc. This may seem only minor but my two suns love watersports such as jet skiing and water skiing which wasnt possible here by the looks of the pictures. The outcome being Direct Holidays are refunding my money and giving £40 compensation each. Today i have spent all day trying to find another holiday, and i mean all day it is not easy finding a booking for 4 adults and 2 children for an alternative{all othe4r properties in playacar are fully booked, only self catering in cancun is available. What a nightmare, my children are devatsated, my mother is crying , my father is going mad and my husband is trying to rearrrange his business schedule around maybe new possible dates for holiday that we booked 13 months ago. I have booked taxis from cancun, ordered money etc all now thyat has to be cancelled. Very bad news i am afraid, direst holidays say it is not there fault, hotel are saying it is not theres, i dont know who to believe. All i know is that the one holiday we take once each year has been totally and utterely ruined!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck, I hope you find an alternative that you like even better. Even if you do, though, in my opinion £40 is not enough compensation for the inconvenience and short notice.

Oh Sarah, I am absolutely gutted for you. I was really really praying that everything would be ok for you, even to put my own mind at rest for our holiday.  After a whole year of looking forward I can only begin to imagine how you are all feeling.  Embarrassed Ok, you have got a full refund but thats not the same.  I have read other posts (on another site) of people actually getting to Cancun airport and then being told they are not heading for the Tucan or the Lindo.  What is going on??

I really am sorry its turned out this way for you.  Please let us know if you do manage to rearrange (the Iberostar Costa Dorada in the Dom Rep is fab by the way!)  thumbsup

Keep us posted.  I will be in constant contact with the Tucan and DH over the next few months thats for sure.

Sarah, That's unbelieveable. Talk raising the stress factors. The Bahia Principe Akunal is a very nice resort from what I hear, although I have never stayed there myself. But I would like to. Try the Gran Porto Real in Playa Del Carmen it is also very similar to level of the Tucan. It has a great location in Playa where you can walk everywhere. Wherever you find a resort I hope it puts a smile back on your face.
