Lindo Review (8/20-8/24)

My wife and I just got back from 5 days (8/20 - 8/24) at the Lindo and had an great time. The resort is beautiful and huge! We booked through Apple Vacations and had no issues with the transfers.

CHECK IN - This went very smoothly. We arrived around 1:30pm, and got upgraded from a standard room to a jr suite. Even had a Dos Equis in my hand half way through the check in process. People working at the reception desk were very friendly and answered all questions we had. Were in our room by 2pm...on the beach by 3pm.

ROOM - We stayed in #5049...building 50. This is the closest to the beach. Unfortunately the view out our room was of trees so we did not spend any time on the balcony. If they would cut down some of those trees, this room would have a great view of the beach/ocean. The room was good sized. Did not have any issues with the AC or the mini-bar. Had very cool towel animals every day.

BEACH - The beach was great. Spent most mornings just lounging under an umbrella...sipping cerveza and frosty beverages. Few rocks in the water, but you can easily see them so they are easy to avoid. The water was smooth every day we were there so there was no problem venturing out 30-40 yards into the water. You can wind surf, kayak, and a few other things for free by going to the building between the Maya and Grand to get the equipment.

POOLS - The pools are HUGE! We would venture to the pools during the afternoons for some trips around the lazy (and I do mean LAZY) river and spending some time are those areas. Here is my main complaint about the resort. Chair savers! MY wife and I would get out to breakfast between 8:30 and 9 every morning. Almost 100% of the chairs around the pool had towels on them by that time and there were maybe 3 people in the pool. You could tell people would walk out early in the morning, find 2,3,4, or more chairs together, put towels and a magazine or book on them and not come back until sometime later in the day. I could not believe how many of the chairs were saved by that early in the morning...with virtually no one in the pool area. There are signs on the umbrellas saying not to save chairs,
but it was never enforced. I would love to see the employees working around the pool just go through the area and move stuff into piles if no one has been on the chairs for a long period of time. This also happened on the beach, but to a lesser extent.

RESTAURANTS - The food is excellent! I don't know what some people expect when going to an all-inclusive resort. We ate most breakfasts at the El Fogon buffet by the Lindo pool. Very good hot and cold choices. Most lunches were at the buffet restaurant by the Lindo lobby. We made the trek up there to eat in the AC. Also very good and tons of choices. We were able to eat at an a la carte restaurant everynight we were there. First night was at The El Rancho steakhouse in the Maya resort. Excellent steaks! Service was a little slow though. Second night was at La Marina seafood...also in the Maya. I had a surf and turf which was great and the wife had salmon...also great. Third night was at El Rodizio Brazilian restaurant in the Del Mar. Once again the food was great. Good selection of meats brought right to your table. The last night we made it into Hashiru the Japanese Restaurant...in the Beach resort. The food was unbelievable and our chef was very entertaining. I would eat there everynight if we could.

BARS - You are never very far from a bar anywhere in the resort. The bars by the pool and beach were good but did not have much top shelf liquor. Mostly generic stuff and beer on tap (Dos Equis). In the evenings we would spend at the bars by the lobby or next to the theater. Here they had Don Julio, 1800, Jack, and Jim Beam...just to name a few. The drinks on the beach were a little weak, but the ones at the lobby/theater bars...there was never any shortage of booze in those drinks.

ENTERTAINMENT - Not too bad for a resort like this. The first night was a little gameshow between 4 couples. Very funny. Second night was a magic show...also very good. Did not make it to the thrid night show b/c of a late dinner reservation, and the last night's show was called Movie Show. Basically dancing to songs from movies...kind of cheesy. Overall...not too bad.

EXCURSIONS - We spent a day with Edventure Tours (see seperate review) and had a GREAT time with them. Highly recommended.

Overall...this is a GREAT resort. Always stuff to do, food to eat, and drinks to consume. We are already planning another trip down there next summer. The employees work very hard to make sure you stay is very nice and relaxing. They would always greet you with a smile and 'Hola!'. Besides the chair issue and service at the steakhouse, I could not find anything bad about this resort. We will definitely be back!

Thanks for the detailed report.  From what I have been told the resorts cannot drain swamps, trim trees to improve views, or make any changes to the flora without government authority.  It is like the three (3) story rule.
