 We are going to Riviera Maya for first time in Nov. (been to Mexico 3 other times though so know what to expect).  It's our 15th anniversary and I kept being anal and overanalyzing to pick the perfect place to stay.  By the time I finished the message boards all over the web, trip reviews, etc. the hotel was no longer available for my week.  I had opportunity to book Lindo & didn't then decided that's where we really want to go. Problem is it's sold out for the 8 nights we will be there.  Maya available that week but don't want to pay the extra $$$.  I find on Funjet that the first 7 nights we are there Linoo's available but when I try to see if I can book a single night then at Maya prices (and hope that they either let me just keep staying at the Lindo that last night or if they would want to upgrade wouldn't argue about it of course  Wink Fun Jet doesn't evidently alllow a one night package.  Any suggestions ?  I also figured a way to piece meal 3 nights at Lindo through FunJet and 5 nights through Apple but really hate using two tour companies due to cancel penalties, insurance, etc. 
  Anyone have any ideas ?  We are just about 45 days out - do more rooms usually open up last minute ?   Is there a direct email for the hotel to see if there is any way to pick up that last night ?  Thanks for your help.  This website is great.  It was actually what talked me into the Lindo.

First let me say you couldn't have picked a nicer resort. You will definitely be happy with the Lindo. As for whether there will be any last minute openings the answer is not likely. The Iberostar's are thought of as world class hotels that offer incredible value with consistentl;y good food and rooms. They tend to book out very quickly, especially now that the world is getting more connected with the internet. I would suggest e-mailing the Public Relations Manager, Loreto Lazo, she is wonderful at helping out to ensure that you have the best vacation ever. Tell her of your dilemma and see if she can come up with some alternatives for you. Here is the contact info for the Lindo, Good Luck.

I would try working with a travel agent on this one. Different tour operators like Apple and Funjet get assigned blocks of rooms. Just because one tour operator has rooms or doesn't have rooms for a certain date, doesn't mean the availability would be the same with another operator. A TA has the ability to look at many different operators to find what you are looking for.

Also, a TA who discounts can save you approximately 5% over the prices you see on the Funjet or Apple websites. For that reason, even if I find the exact package I want on Funjet or Apple, I never book online or with their recommended TAs. I always go through a discount TA who takes less than the standard commission.
