If the noise was that bad I would take ANY available room, not just an upgrade. Getting upset with the workers is fruitless - they have no control on what rooms they work on. They go where they are told. You were offered another room by the management. It was your choice to not move.  As far as food is concerned a picky eater should stay away from steak in ANY foreign country. That is just common sense. I just don't understand the "food was bad" complaint...and I AM a picky eater. If were you were too sick, weak and dehydrated from not eating for days that you could not move to another room then an upgrade should have been the least of your worries...you needed to be in a hospital. Sorry if I sound harsh, but it sounds like you were just looking for an upgraded room and you didn't get it.

WOW eagles apparantly they have you pegged as a bald face liar about the food. some people act like they work for iberostar they take it so personal. I have read on this board and several others about the food. so i know your not making it up. We actually went to the Italian at the Lindo and it was HORRIBLE! we were sick for a day and a half from pasta!!, of course im sure someone will post that i am a liar and made it up even though i still love the resort and am returning in December just not to the Italian at the Lindo.

And lisa what your suppose to say is the resort should have never booked him in that room in the first place right?HuhHuhHuh?Way to shift blame!!!

some ruthless people on here thats for sure.

raider, I didn't take it that Lisa was calling him a liar, but as some of the facts may have been exaggerated.  She has a point though, if the noise was as bad as described, I'd take any room and not hold out for an upgrade.

ok maybe im not typing in english because people keep glossing over my point.

HE SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN PLACED IN THAT ROOM!!!!!!!!! HE SHOULDN'T HAVE HAD TO EVEN DEAL WITH THAT SITUATION!!!!!!!!!!
it doesnt matter how he handled it the resort dropped the ball from the start.

and lisa herself admits to the harshness of her statement. how do you not understand the "bad food complaint" he said the food was bad, that was the complaint, he got sick from the food that was his complaint. what is there not to understand.

I get frustrated because as you can see from my post count i read here a lot and EVERY time someone posts anything resembling a complaint they get bashed and dismissed as rude and uptight. and everybody jumps on them to post how it was really their fault because iberostar can do no wrong, its silly

and if i was on my honeymoon and was sick adn the resort SCREWED me by lying about the noise ending and putting me in that room in the first place i would EXPECT an upgrade also! My parents get upgrades FOR FREE all the time when they visit! its not like it is a huge deal they do it everyday for FREE!

Don't want you to think your points are being missed so I'll address the 2 you mentioned.

First the fact that he shouldn't have been booked in the room to begin with.  I agree with that, but also realize that in a company that size it might be just a case of miscommunication between maintenance and the front desk.  My company is nowhere near as large and we have communication problems between departments all the time.  It happens everywhere.  He should have taken the other room and that problem would have been taken care of.

Secondly about the food.  I've heard complaints about the food too, I've had some horrible tasting dishes, and my wife got sick once but I find it hard to believe that he was unable to find anything he could eat.  There is enough of a variety that most folks can find some food they like.  I've even seen a vegetarian write that although he didn't find the food great, he could always find something he could eat.  I've also seen people sit at the pool bar all day and complain the next day that the buffet made them sick.

Most on here can only judge the posts based on their own experiences, whether at a resort or back in the real world.  I don't see all complaints on the board getting blindly bashed, but I do see people point out things they find unrealistic based on their own experience.

Just my observations is all.

Wow raider ... looks like you took it more personally than me or Eagles!

First let me say that I am a very nice person, not ruthless at all. I would never be "cracking workers skulls" because they were doing their jobs, even if it was annoying (I am sure you were kidding though, right?).

OK. Now...let me say again (in English) that if the noise was as bad as Eagles presented in his post, then I would have taken any room that was available whether it was upgraded or comparable. I am not shifting blame or defending anyone. You are right. They never should have been put there to begin with, but they were. As Maya said, miscommunication happens everywhere (even on this board). That being said, if someon was as sick and weak as Eagles would like us to believe, and presented with choice (A)move to another room comparable to what they are currently in or (B) stay in this one miserable with continued pounding going on and hold out for that upgrade, I'm not understanding why anyone even one delirious from dehydration would choose B.  That's all I'm saying.

Now, the food. I know people are picky eaters, I know people get sick on vacation, I know the Iberostar food is not perfect....but how many people eat a steak to calm a sick stomach?! Come on! I've never heard of that. I could think of 22 other foods I would eat before a steak (in a foreign country no less) to settle my sick stomach.

All I am saying is that I think there were some embellishments and exaggerations in the post. I don't own stock in Iberostar, I have no vested interest in their success or failure. I just think that some people feel that a good way to "get back" at the resort when they don't get their upgrade is to post a nastygram on a site such as this. It makes them feel a little bit better I guess.

By the way, raider, weren't you the guy who (jokingly) wanted to put shrimp in the seat cushions of people who you thought were "saving" seats? Ruthless? Me?

Wow!  Sounds like I missed a lot last night and I don't know where to begin.  I guess the room.  It would have been nice to get an upgraded room BUT we were perfectly happy with the room that we had.  Even if they had offered an upgraded room, I'm not sure if we would have taken it.  Call me lazy but while on my honeymoon, the last thing that I want to do is spend a day re-packing all of our cloths, checking to make sure that we didn't miss anything, call and wait for a bellboy or move it ourselves, get to a new room and then unpack everything all over again.  I just wanted the noise to stop and I don't think that is asking too much.  Iberostar rules even say that a GUEST can be kicked out of the resort for being loud, why doesn't that rule apply to hotel workers?  Please also keep in mind that because this was a honeymoon, we had just spent months and months of stressful days preparing for the wedding so we were tired just getting to the resort.  We didn't want much, just a place to relax and unwind after the wedding.  This wasn't a vaction where we planned on drinking all day or going scuba diving, we planned to stay in our room most of the time before we even got there.  Hopefully some of you can think back and remember what your honeymoon was like and what you wanted to do(playtime in bed maybe?)  The room could have had a mattress on the floor and nothing else and we would have been happy as long as it was quiet.  We didn't care about an upgrade even though I am shocked that it wasn't offered by this so called fabulous, superior 5 star resort.
As for the food.  I was trying all the different foods that I could, to see what worked for my stomach.  I thought that maybe it was all the grease so I tried the pasta at the Italian restaurant.  I think Raider knows how that went...haha!  For me, a steak is always something that isn't too spicy or greasy and wont' hurt my stomach.  And I was right, the steak didn't make me feel nearly as bad as the rest of the food.  My problem with the steak is that when you order medium rare and it comes back burnt to a crisp, there is a major problem.  It doesn't take a cooking degree to understand well done and rare does it?  The steak was black.   But don't get me wrong, that was probably the best dinner that I had at Iberostar.  I enjoyed not wanted to vomit as I ate that dinner.
So hopefully that answers some of your questions.  Lisa, sorry you think that I am lying.  I'm not taking the time to write all of this stuff to try to get something from the resort or anything.  I was just hoping to warn a few people of what might happen to them before they pay to go to Iberostar.  Raider, what can I say?  Thank you for not jumping down my throat.  I hope you all understand that I don't enjoy spending my day re-hashing the bad things from my honeymoon.  I was just trying to warn future guests that Iberostar doesn't seem to care about their guests.

ok i overacted and became harsh in my post and i apologize, i am really nice person but sometimes i have a hard time getting my point across in print. And when i do it comes of very mean like my last one. so sorry for my outburst. I still think he should have been given the upgrade if not for the noise but at least for his honeymoon. I got one for just asking my last time down. My parents go at least once a year and get them every other time. all for free. so here is a guy who has a legitimate complaint and they are holding him over the barrel.

im with you on the Italian at the LINDO, how do you get sick from pasta?Huh?!?!?!?! i dont know but it messed up me and my wife that is for sure. sucks about your steak i ate at the steakhouse and ordered a filet and it was AWESOME!!! tender and juicy one of the best i have had in mexico or america.

after an exhausting wedding and trip to mexico then being sick you bet i would head over to those workers, of course there would be like 8 big construction guys and i would get more of a whipping then i could give them. but i wouldnt be thinking straight if in the same situation. and i know this because i was just married and there were times i wanted to beat my own loving family members because of the stress of paying for everything and planing it all.

so i have now grounded myself from posting in the vacation complaint section(read only) and will go to bed with no dinner to night to punish myself for my unwaranted outburst.

and lisa i HATE shrimp and would never touch one even to mess with a chair nazi!

Raider-you are cracking me up!!  Thanks for the laugh.  I feel bad that you had to ground yourself because of me bringing up my problems. lol  So do you think that the resort will still be there after this hurricane?  Anyway, congratulations on the recent marriage!

no worries eagles, i got myself in that situation not you. I think the resort will be fine praying those buildings are tough. Now the ones with thatch roofing might have a tougher time. But the people down there are amazing, and will get the repairs done long before i show up in december.

Thanks for the congrats and right back at you. Our december trip is actually our honeymoon but we didnt want to go in august when we had the wedding. we wanted it cold here in colorado when we went. So we are going to see about an upgrade, my parents got upgraded to a nicer room with a jacuzzi on the balconey at the Lindo just for asking! and i have been upgraded to a better suite on our trip last november. I am going for gold and wearing my iberostart shirt when i show up and see about getting moved up to the LINDO! probably wont happen but never hurts to ask!

IF your an eagles fan, i would like to say you guys got lucky!!!

Raider, you are too funny!!  I am sitting here laughing so hard imagining you checking in with the Iberostar t-shirt on!!  I'm sure that you will have a good time whatever happens, at least you will be warm!  I live in Florida so I was kicking myself the whole time we were there for not just staying in Florida somewhere!  And yes, I am an Eagles fan, true green!  I just moved down here from Philly about a year and a half ago.  We have a tough game this week though.

Well i hope you guys pull it out, seeing that the Chargers are in our division and we need them to lose. i wasn't sad to hear the cheifs have to fly into miami today and play today so hopefully we will beat buffalo and make some ground in the AFC west. so i will be rooting for ya guys!!!

yea i really have that iberostar shirt they give it out to return guests thats why i am hoping it will help get me the upgrade. I have also thought i may have a better chance sending my wife and my friends wife to the front desk with very low cut tops and hope for a young guy up there or perhaps a dirty old man. thumbsup

Raider, that's a good idea!  Maybe you could alter the iberostar shirt to 'fit' a woman and have them go up wearing it?  Can you believe that Eagles game?  We got sooo lucky!!
