Evacuated from Maya

Just returned this morning from Maya..  Incredible place!!!!   A review to follow.  Last night all Canadians were evacuated.  Got a call at 7pm to advise us to be ready to go by 8:45pm.  Our flight was at midnight.   Lost 10 days of our vacation but I guess I rather be safe at home than battle Wilma.   When we left they were boarding up the convention center.  Everyone left will be moved there when storm hits.   

I will return!!  Already looking at travel sites this morning!!!

I love your attitude!! So many people that have your kind of experience let it ruin their opinion on the whole area! Glad you are going back and I hope you have a fantastic trip when you do!!.

Sorry to hear about your lost days vandam and I agree with travmagic about your attitude.  I hope your return vist is spectacular!  I'll let you know what it looks like after Wilma. (hopefully)

glade to see positive people this is the Caribbean and in the months betten June and October there is a chance of this happening thats why any where in the Caribbean the price is lower than the other months we left the day Stan hit and didn't know if we would make it home . but we took the chance thats why we go the whole family the first week in June and have had no problem but sooner are later the weather will catch up to us. LOVE IBEROSTAR AND WILL RETURN THE FIRST WEEK OF JUNE OF 2006

I was scheduled Nov. 2 as well at Lindo. I highly doubted that was happening but was hopefully for maybe a December reschedule.  Highly doubt it now: Just on playa.info website and saw the following under the thread "I talked to ____, they said this:":

"My sister just called me from playa, she was working in iberostar playa paraiso and she told me the hotel is as good as gone, but the people are ok although the roof in the conventionbuilding came down... everybody who was staying there, are safe !!!
just letting you know this ..."

That was posted about an hour ago and there weren't any other comments around though. Good news is everyone is safe which is the only really important thing - property can be repaired/rebuilt.  Hopefully it's not as bad as the poster whom I took it from said.

It is great that Iberostar is taking care of the people that are their.
Hopefully tomorrow they will start helping those of us heading there (nov 13.).

Well we have re-booked for Maya after being evacuated before Wilma hit!!!  Leaving December 31....  After being evacuated we were so disappointed, but now we hear everything back to normal mid-November and we are very anxious to return.  Having stayed at Lindo last year (which we loved)  we were overwhelmed by service, rooms etc at Maya.  Yes it's more money, but I like the internet in my room, the bigger room with jacuzzi, dvd player, the restaurants for Maya guests only (effective December Lindo will no longer be able to use Maya restaurants).
Can't wait to return!!!

you will love the Maya we did when we returned in September after the first hurricane hit this year and i can say the only difference was the follage was damage and i swear the beach even looked bigger say hi to Juan at the swim up bar for me just tell him the guy who drinks Beam and water he will know.
