Diving on East Coast of Domincan Republic

  Does anyone have any experience or info regarding scuba diving in Domincan?  We're staying at the Dominicana Suites in early December and wondered if anyone can offer any info.

We stayed at the Punta Cana in Jan 04 and found the staff at the Dressel Diving shop to be most understanding & competent. 

We took our PADI coursework & pool diving at home in Canada prior to arrival & did our open water dives here.   Overall it was a most enjoyable time, even for my wife who was not entirely at ease (she tends to get anxious in new situations).  The staff tuned in to this immediately & gave her a little more attention, which really helped.

That being said, we were dissappointed wtih the reef here....... it was quite subdued in color.  We were told this is because we were on the Atlantic side of the island, and day-trips to the Carribbean side were available for $$$$.

I notice Dressel Divers do a diving package which takes you on dives to other small Islands, has anyone done any of these? Is the diving likely to better?
