As one of many who has booked the new Iberostar Bahia it would be great if we could have regular updates on this hotel.  There isn't a mention of it on the Iberostar Web site and I don't even know if they have started building yet.  After having my vacation to the Lindo cancelled through Wilma I am nervous that come next October the same thing will happen but in this case because the hotle hasn't been built/finished.  There is now a seperate section on this board for the new Iberostar in Jamaica, can we have one for Brazil please George? not sure not sure not sure not sure

Beachcomber & Brighteyes,

I have received the following email from the Director of Sales International Iberostar Hotels & Resorts.

Iberostar Bahia.

It will open on April 10th 2006, first with 400 rooms and end of June with 600 rooms.

The hotel will be of the style of the Mexican hotels, in the sense that we will have several a la carte restaurants, bars, etc... The rooms will be standard and Junior Suites.

In general it will be a complex like those in the Caribbean.

Aside it will open with 18 hole Golf Course and will end up having in two years 27 holes. Also it will account for convention center, commercial center, Spa. All this in due time of course.

The complex will account with 1.800 rooms, when it is all finished. As we have 2.000.000. - Square meters we will build 4 hotels and not 5 like in Paraiso. All of them of 5 stars.

It is in the area of Praia do Forte, around 40 miles from Salvador de Bahia.

===============================================>

Sounds very exiting!
George

Can anyone add anything to this as we have booked to go the first week in May 2006 (the brochure stated opens November 2005!) and if the scheduled open date is now 10th April 2006 then (as things never open on time) there is a chance that it may not be open when we go!!!!  In addition, will all the restaurants and recreation facilities be available at opening or will some of the advertised facilities not be available.  Any help will be appreciated!!!

"George"  Any chance you could contact the Director of Sales again with our questions or alternatively pass on their contact details to us?

We weren't worried until reading this but are very worried now!!!!

Personally, I'd never book an hotel before it really is open, and from what I've heard from people, I would not go to a hotel until it has been open for a year. The first year there usually is a lot of logistic stuff that needs to get fixed (like number of chambermaids, number of people in the bar, restaurant logistics)... But I've got the Bahia on my to-do-list :-)

Well thank you for not being very helpful Lord Fox.  Your words of wisdom have not even began to add any information to what we already have or answer any of the questions we have.  If everyone thought like you then no hotel would ever exist as if no one went to a hotel for the first year then it would be closed down before that year was out.  In addition, if no-one booked into a hotel before it really was open then it would never actually open would it?

Love your work Gemini. What you say is very true. It is always nice to hear from positive people :-) I have every faith in Iberostar having the resort up and running in good time for everyone who has booked, even if it is with a few minor limitations to service. Iberostar are a long established chain of quality hotels, I have always been more than happy with them in the past and I am sure they will not disapoint me in Brazil!

Good luck with the opening of your new and exciting project Iberostar, keep up the great work!

Hey folks let's lighten up. Everyone is respectfully entitled to an opinion, I know of a great many people that think the same way as Lordfox and he certainly is entitled to his opinion. Does that make him a bad person?  I doubt it. No need to get hostile

Mexicanbob, it is not a case of lightening up.  We asked a question which he didnt even attempt to answer and just posted negative comments.  Yes he is entitled to his opinion as are you and as are we but there was no need for his response.  As for saying he is a bad person, we never said that, just pointed out the logical conclusion that if everyone thought like him then no one would never get to stay in any hotel would they?  As for us being hostile, I would suggest you check the meaning of the word as there was not 1 iota of hostility in our post.

Since I am an extremely well educated person I do know the definition of hostile, and quite frankly I feel you are becoming hostile towards me because they way you word your sentences comes off that way. Maybe I'm reading more into the posts than you are letting on but that's my opinion which is as valid as your's or Lordfox's or anyone elses. Whether he responded with little or no info is his perogative. Take what you will from his posts but leave the sarcasm out of your responses as I don't think anyone appreciates it. Just my humble 2 cents worth. Peace out. thumbsup

Apologies if any offence has been caused, all we asked for was some help and in the same way that you interpreted the way that our post is worded as hostile, we interpreted Lord Fox's post as patronising and "having a go".  In the words of my Grandmother, if you dont have anything worthwhile to say then dont say anything at all.  As for your comment about not thinking that anyone appreciates sarcasm then we must point out that brighteyes certainly appears to.

If anyone can provide any further information that goes towards helping us with our original questions then it will be very much appreciated.  Unhelpful comments however, are not.

LOL. This topic is becoming fiesty. I'm a newbie to this board too, but I have been reading it for months (in anticipation of our trip in 2 days!!). Gemini, some advice---you'll get a lot further with kindness and humor on this board than with sarcasm, being pretentious, and demands. I wouldn't even answer your questions after reading this thread just to pidd you off. Lighten up, it's a vacation, not then end of the world.

Thats exactly what we are trying to do George, ask for information about a resort.

However it is pretty obvious that we are not going to get any useful information from the members of this board as you who are a board moderator have chosen not to answer the question we asked of you.

Vanessa, It may be "just a vacation" to you but to us it means a hell of a lot more than that and we dont appreciate your patronising condescending attitude.

We are members of many message boards and have never been accused of any of the traits attributed to us by members of this board on any of them.  It is people like you Vanessa, Lordfox and Mexicanbob on here that should "lighten up" we feel.

 thanks

Woah !!!

The flavor of this thread is definitely contra to the Carribbean experience!!

Calm down people !!   Take a pill, drink or whatever !!  Relax.  Breathe !

Gemini, you have to be patient and give George a chance.  You posted your request late last Tuesday.  George may not have seen the post immediately as he has just returned from his own vacation.  His query to IB may not have happened until later in the week and maybe not responded to as the week-end probably has their offices closed.

You asked him for some specific info from the IB management.  With the passing of Wilma that absolutely devastated seven of their flagship resorts, I'm more that sure that all IB  senior execs have their hands full trying to keep things up to par for their registered guests that are paying the bills and that are funding indirectly future expansion plans.  If their current guests are not happy, there is no point to even think of expansion.  To go one step farther, I wouldn't be the slightest surprised to see several of the senior managers visiting the resorts over the next while "glad-handing" the guests as a PR measure !!

If I were in charge, that is where my focus would be.

I'm sure you will get the answers you requested in due time, just remember that you are not the only client with concerns, and in order to get you an informed answer, it just may take a bit of time.  May is a long way off, and as we have been hearing throughout these forums, a great deal of work can be done in a short time, but there are priorities.

In the meantime, relax,..... men-yana (sp?)
