I have been to IB Bavaro,Hacienda Dominicus and Lindo. My children(10 and 12) really enjoy the swim up bar for their refreshments(as do I).I read that the Tucan swim up bar is in an adult pool.Does this mean no children are permitted at the bar. Also the other IB's had the swim up bar in the  main pool which created a nice party atmosphere for all to enjoy. We could hang at the bar and still keep an eye on the kids.Is the Tucan bar off by itself somewhere?

Yes the swim-up bar is in the adult pool.  This is the main complaint that we had while there,.... the water in ALL the pools is ccccccoold.  Couldn't comment on the kid's pools though, as our kids are all grown.

Anyhow, as I was saying, we are Canadian, and if we found the water cold, then you can imagine why there wasn't any problem getting a seat at the swim-up.

This was the only negative we found on our two trips there, and they weren't that big a deal, given the many pluses at this resort.

The swim up bar is adults only and separate from the  main pool.  Its only a few feet away from the main pool, but you go down some stairs into it and won't be able to see the kids in the main pool.

With the greatest respect, after watching a recent tv programme about "adult theme hotels", could someone please confirm that the adult bar is for adults due to the sale of alcohol and not adult themed, if you get my drift. Thank you

Adults only means over 18.

The IB chain respectfully requests that all guests remain properly attired around the pool areas - the beach areas are for sunbathing

Iberostar is very family-friendly and runs classy resorts. You will not see any inappropriate behavior. It's not a Hedonism-type place where swingers go.

You can expect to see some topless sunbathing on the beach at times, and even occasionally by the pool (even though it's not supposed to happen by the pool). This occurs at all beach resorts I've been to in the Caribbean and Mexico.

Having been to many hotels, and I thought that separating the swim-up bar from the children was a great idea.  The pool is adults only because no one under 18 is allowed in - and that is the only reason.  It is funny though, because it can get very noisy and the kids are always thinking that the adults are having more fun that the kids.  The kids wonder because the foliage keeps them from seeing what's going on in the grotto!

A comment on the topless bathers.  I went with my three boys, ages 13, 9, 6 (now 7) and found it helpful to talk to them about this before going.  Children will see many breasts and bums (in thongs) at this resort - mostly at the beach.  I was there during August and there were many Europeans, so it was very prevalent.  I explained beforehand that this is the norm in many parts of the world, etc., etc., etc.

The swim up bar at the Tucan however is not connected to the main pool. It is a completely seperate bar/pool area unlike the Iberostar Paraiso Del Mar pool that has several bars right in the main pool area so it isn't that convenient to watch kids. It is however right next to the main area in a sunken zone.

The Pool Bar is seperate at the Tucan which in my opinion is great.  We chatted with the bartender the last time we were there (we have stayed at all the Iberostars in the playa area)  and the pool is incredibly difficult for  them to maintain the pH in.  If you watch for long enough, people sit and drink for hours, when is the pee break!!!!!!  It is nice that it is seperate so that others who believe in using washrooms don't need to bath in urine infested pools.  The bartender at the Tucan told us that it is a full time job maintaining their adult pool.  Every hour they have to check the content, and add tons of chemicals........gross!
