I stayed at the Iberostar Bavaro from November 20th - to the 27th and must say it was one of the best vacations I have ever had. There were 13 of us and we all had an amazing time at the Iberostar Bavaro, I would go back there tomorrow if the opportunity came about.

The check in was a breeze. The grounds were absolutely amazing. The shows were good. The food was very good. My wife is very picky and she had no problem finding something to eat.

The Iberostar Bavaro stuff was GREAT!!!!! The service was truly outstanding.

Each room now has an iron and board. If you bought your package from Apple Vacations and Go-Go, the safe is free.

I consider Iberostar Bavaro an upscale version If Iberostar Tucan/Quetzal. Several people in my group visited Iberostar Tucan 10 times and even they were impressed with Iberostar Bavaro.

Couple of suggestions: bring with you 50 disposable plastic cups and use them when brushing your teeth and washing your tooth brush.

Ask every day for a gallon of purified water and use it to brush your teeth. It is included...

Bring with you hand sanitizer. I have not heard of anyone getting sick while we were there.

I brought back with me every piece of info I could put my hand on. I will make it available within one week. I promise after reading it you will become experts on IB Bavaro, Dominicana and Punta Cana.

Hi George, welcome back! I too loved the Bavaro. We went in Sept of 2004 and that is where we fell in love with the IB resorts. Tell me, have they renovated the rooms at the Bavaro?  What makes it an"upscale Tucan"? I've heard so much about the Tucan that I thought about trying it out but I am a room snob. We stayed at the Lindo this past June and loved the rooms because they were so new.  The Bavaro's rooms were great but definately older and I heard they were doing some renovations so I was just wondering if you stayed in one of those rooms. I also would not hesitate to go back to the Bavaro, we loved Punta Cana! flirt

JK,

We stayed in the older room and I did not notice any renovation work being done out there. We felt that service food and grounds were better at Iberostar Bavaro. We visited Tucan many times and really liked this resort but this time around we wanted some new experiences.

Are we to assume that there is something about the water quality that is less the sanitary?
Glad you had a good trip, now what about some good pictures?

Jim,

As we all know it is a not good idea to use tap water for drinking or brushing teeth. It is true for Mexico and all other Caribbean destinations. The only place which is totally safe is Aruba.

This time I did not take to many pictures. I was interested in getting a very hard to get info for Iberostar Bavaro, Dominicana & Punta Cana.

I was able to get literally every piece of info which was available to me out there. I will publish it shortly... Really good stuff.

Hi George,

I just found this board and would love to get some of the information you brought back from the Iberostar before our trip next week.  My girlfriend and I will be staying at the Iberostar Bavaro from Dec. 4 - 11 for her cousin's wedding.  I can't wait for the trip, any help with making it an even better week would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks,

Ben

Hi Mark, I can answer that question on the beach.  In my opinion, the Bavaro beach is much nicer that the Paraiso beach.  Don't get me wrong, we liked the beach at the Lindo but the Bavaro has a much wider beach, the sand is super soft and the water is much calmer and bluer.  The Ib's in PC has a natural reef  that protects the beach and prevents the high waves  like the ones you get at the Paraiso complex.  That being said, we still loved the Lindo and are going back next summer.  I would not hesitate to go back to the Bavaro but not in the summer.

Mark,

I enjoyed the beach equally at both places. I loved the fact that there were plenty of palapas and shadow at IB Bavaro beach.

fins2theleft,

Here's several tips:

Bring plenty of dollar bills, the front desk never has enough of them;
The casino at IB Dominicana can has 5, 10, 20 dollar bills;
Ask for a gallon of purified water daily;
Bring with you 50 plastic cups, this way you will not have to wash your glass cups after teeth brushing.
Bring 20 mg bantyl ( a muscle relaxer - prescription drug) - helps with stomach problems, 20 mg Pepcid and Imodium.
Pack bug spray and suntan location. It is extremely expensive in the gift shop.
Bring some room deodorizer or candles and your own clock.
Make all your a la cart reservations at once right away. I recommend - Japanese, Gourmet, Steak and Pagoda.
You are allowed only 3 reservations but if they have space available you can do more...
Try buffet at Dominicana & Punta Cana, they have somewhat different food selection.
Bring umbrella.
Try to get room close to 2536 building, perfect location.

Hope this helps,
George

Hi George

Have just read your review on the Iberostar Bavaro (very informative). We are thinking of going to the Bavaro NEXT YEAR (Have already booked for this year 2006  for the IB Costa Dorada)  We like the look of th Bavaro,  but, wondered if they  include International Brands/Top self drinks.

We went the the IB Hacienda in 2004 and the IB Costa Dorada in 2005 and are returning to the Costa Dorada this year 2006.

We have a couple of menus  The EL RODIZIO -  Brazilian  and LA HACIENDA - Mexican and other price lists(Spa and Trips )  . Would these be of interest to you, if so what is perfered method for sending.

We would also like thank you  George!  for all his help in 2005 and to wish all Board Members a "Very Happy and peaceful  2006 and may all your holidays be great one"  wine

We just got back from the Iberostar Bavaro in Punta Cana and it was a wonderful week.  I was very concerned about this trip as I have Crohn's which can make traveling and eating unusual food quite a trial.  I ate everything and anything and did not get sick once.  I think what some people do is drink more alcohol and more food then normal and end up sick and then blame it on the hotel......my suggestion....eat and drink moderately....don't stuff yourself.  The food was very good and there was always a variety so that anyone can find something to eat.  My favorite restaurants were the steakhouse and the Cajun...yum, yum!!  I did play it safe and did not use tap water for brushing my teeth.....I used the bottles water they provide for you in your frig and it worked out well.  I left a dollar tip each morning for our housekeeper and she left plenty of water each day.  The beach was clean and always plenty of palapas (we had a group of 9).  I would recommend the Coco Locos at the lobby bar...with or without alcohol they are yummy!  I think this is definately worth the money and would visit again!
