IB DelMar Rooms

  My husband and I are leaving on January 20/06 and arriving at 1:00 a.m. the next day.  Does anybody know if they let you check in that early eventhough their check-in time is not until 3p.m.  Also we booked with Signature Vacations and requested a top floor ocean view room.  What do you think are the odds of getting such room?  For those of you  who've been in same situation, please response.

Last time we were at the Tucan, we also traveled with Signature.  It looks like their travel times have not imporved. 

Check in times at the IB are indeed late afternoon, but they will give you an area to store your luggage & somewhere to "freshen up" while you wait.  You can check in on arrival, and with your wrist-band, have full run of the resort, although at 1 am there will not be too much happening.  With some luck, if they have a room available, they may give you one temporarily until your regular room is ready.  It all depends on hotel occupancy at the time.

As to your room request, our experience with Signature was that once they have your money, they're done.  It may not be a bad idea to e-mail the hotel and make your request again, ASAP.  Be advised that their written English is not that good, but you should be able to get your ideas across if you use common words. The IB staff are legendary for their hospitality.  If you know anyone that writes Spanish, you may get better results.

As an aside, we are arriving on the 20th at 8 am with AirTransat vacations & hope to be at the hotel about 10 am, a much better time to take advantage of the hotel's services.  Maybe we'll see you there poolside !

Erp, we booked through Signature this past February and requested some sort of ocean view also, but I took the liberty of e-mailing Loreto Lazo and she was very prompt (within 2 days) of returning my e-mail. She gave me the obligatory "we cannot guarantee anything but I will pass your request to the Desk manager". Well when we arrived I was singled out by the front desk and told I would be receiving a complimentary upgrade to a Junior Suite. Within 30 seconds of starting to fill out the entry paperwork Loreto Lazo came over to personally welcome me and informed me I was being upgraded to Building #10, which is the only oceanfront building in the entire complex. The views are outstanding also very quiet location. I would e-mail them about 1 week before your arrival because the wholesale companies do not forward guest lists until about a week to 10 days before their arrival. As for your early check-in, it's quite likely you will receive your room immediately because when you leave you will be departing the resort between 10 and 11 p.m. to go to the airport. Your final day you will have to check out by noon so keep a change of clothes in your carryon as you will still have a long time after checkout to enjoy the resort. I can tell you from my past experience and that of others I have talked to the resort trys very hard to accomodate requests. Good Luck!

Thanks for the tip blacker & Mexiconbob.  I just finished e-mailing Loreto Lazo.  I hope it works.  We'll be celebrating my husband's b-day there so you're all invited.  Just don't tell him I told you he'll be turning 32.

32 !!!, I wish i could go back to 32. I just tripped over the 50 yard line if you know what I mean . The years are smoking by at rocket speeds now. I'm beginning to think the Mexicans have the right idea. Everything is manana (tomorrow). Less stress that way and more time to enjoy life.

The only way you will get ocean view is if you are in Building 10 which is where the junior suites are. Because its christmas it may be hard to upgrade depending on the number of guests staying in the hotel. If you can get that I would recommend building #15 right in the middle of the resorts steps away from the pool, and not to far from the lobby or bars at night. On the other hand if your like me and you go out all night you might want building 18 or 19 as it can seem like a really long walk at 6 in the morning.
