We arrive as my sons says Paradise on Monday, can not wait!! sunny
Anyone know if the hotel/dive shop rent snorkeling fins(flippers) and how much they may cost?
I will  send info when we return as well!
What amount is usual for tipping ie hotel staff.
Will the hotel help arrange anything spacial for anniversaries?
Iam so glad I found this board, all of you have allready answered so many questions!
Thank You
Jeff

Here's a good thread for Spanish phrases:

You can check out fins for free, but use of the free snorkel equipment is supposed to be limited to one hour a day. I'm sure the dive shop will rent them if you want them longer-term, but I don't know the cost. There isn't all that much to see immediately offshore, so the free hour may be plenty. Plus, you probably won't have any trouble keeping them a little longer or getting them twice in a day if there is availability. If you visit snorkel spots around the Mayan Riviera, you can rent fins at just about any site and save carrying them around.

Here are my usual tipping practices:
$1 per bag to bellman.
$2-3 daily for housekeeper, leave on pillow.
$2 for minibar guy, if you have special requests-- leave tip with Spanish note in fridge.
$1-2 to bartender periodically (every 1-3 drinks) depending on service & special requests.
$1 per round to cocktail servers.
$2-4 to buffet table/drink servers, depending on service.
$3-8 to dinner waiters, depending on service.
$10-20 for concierge at the end of your stay, if they did anything special for you other than make dinner reservations.
Use your discretion-- tips are never required but are always appreciated.

I would e-mail ahead of time and let them know about the anniversary. Then mention it at check-in. You might get freebies! Your building concierge will be glad to help you set up some special arrangements.

Also regarding tips. If you have kids and you leave them in the miniclub all week, you might want to tip the girls there. They work at the bare minimum 10 hours a day (much more then any other position mentioned above) and the may about 500-600 a month.

Also if you happen to make friends with an animation staff member who you find to be incredible, friendly and making your trip more fun, you should tip them as well.

Tip could be as little as 5 or 10 dollars a week, but I have also had families who tipped much more then that.
