disturbing comparison of Del Mar to the Quetzal

I just read a review of a Ib. Quetzal guest who had glowing report. However, he was saying that the beach and water at the Del Mar were not very nice. I am bringing a large party of family and friends to the Del Mar next year and I have a large family going this weekend also. We have all been to the Tucan. Can someone reassure me that the water is just as blue? It may sound weird but that is the one thing I love about Mexico the most!!!!I don't want everyone to be disappointed.

the water is bluer(i guess thats a word) by the tucan, however the del mar doesnt look like lake water like described in the review. it is beautiful.

I agree with Raider, the water at the Del Mar does not look anything like lake water and is quite beautiful. It is true that the water in the Playa Del Carmen/Playacar area does have more turquoise hues but if you go even more south to Tulum the waters there are stunningly beautiful. Xpu Ha has in my opinion one of the nicest beaches down there. Some of the resorts that are located at Xpu Ha would be the Xpu Ha Palace, Copacabana and the Barcelo Maya.

We visited both the Tucan and the Paraiso beaches and didn't see much difference between them. Both are beautiful. There are more shades of turquoise near the Tucan, since the reef is closer, but the water is very blue and the sand very white both places.

thanks CoralReef, you made me feel a little better. I have been to Cancun and that water is gorgeous also so I figure Del Mar is in between so......

We stayed at the Paraiso Beach 12/10 - 12/15.  We were a party of 14.  I would like to say that I love the Iberostar resorts.  We have stayed at the Quetzal before also.  The service at both is fabulous.  Both resorts are beautiful.  But I did prefer the beach at the Quetzal.  The beach at the Paraiso is very rocky, we all got banged up.  I am a beach person and could not really play in the water without navigating over rocks some sharp.  I do feel that there is no better resort than the Iberostar.  We had a great time.  The rooms were great, the shows were fun, and the resort was beautiful.  There is no better service, than at an Iberostar resort.
