Yep, the difference was the transportation. We bought a package tour that included the AI Xel-Ha admission, plus round-trip transportation from resort lobby to park gate.

Some other options include hiring a taxi, or taking the local bus or collectivo that locals use. We just went with the most convenient option, since we didn't want to stress about bus schedules, carrying taxi money, etc.

If your kids enjoy snorkeling, they will love Xel-Ha! Even if they don't snorkel, they will enjoy the lazy river float. I didn't do the dolphins, so I can't comment on that.

I recommend taking the collectivo to Xel-Ha.  It only costs about $3/person but you do have to trek up to the main highway from your resort to catch one.

Staying at the Maya next week and would like to know if you could tell me which building would be best to be in for central location.  Someone had recommended requesting 62.  Is this correct and if so which floor is best?

Yes, 62 is central on the Maya side. There are 5 guest room buildings, and 62 is smack-dab in the center of them, between the beach and the lobby.

I'm partial to the third floor, because the floors are marble. So on lower floors, you may hear people walking around above you sometimes. I also think the balcony is more private, up high. On the first floor, depending on your room location, people may be walking right past your patio. They are screened off somewhat with railings and landscaping, but still....

If you consider the third floor, bear in mind that the elevators are small and hot. We preferred to walk up the stairs. We needed the exercise anyway, after all the good food!
